Everyone already knows that people in Australia have small dicks, but no reason to make fun of them about it…Unless it’s for road-safety. |

A statue of Tupac Shakur in Atlanta, GA is among the latest targets of a hangman’s noose. Authorities in Georgia are investigating a pair of incidents that began early Saturday morning when one or more vandals tied a noose around the neck of a bronze likeness of Shakur that stands in the open “peace garden” of the Tupac Amaru Shakur Center for the Arts in Stone Mountain, 15 miles from Atlanta, according to Versa Manos, a spokesman for the center’s foundation. This incident involved further damage to the Shakur statue, including plastered writings with Sept. 11 and Hurricane Katrina references, as well “vague threats” against rappers and record company executives, according to a statement on the foundation’s Web site. Afeni Shakur, mother of Tupac Shakur and the creator of her son’s foundation — which offers training to young people in the arts — issued a statement forgiving whoever vandalized the statue. “Hate comes in all colors and genders, and therefore we will use this act of hate and ignorance to bring our community together and pray for the healing of those who harbor such feeling,” Afeni Shakur wrote. |

Upstairs Gallery at XLARGE- 4th Installment.
|
XLARGE would like to present to you our 4th artist in our Upstairs Gallery series, Tyler Gibney. We have produced a limited edition tee shirt that will only be available at the XLARGE stores. The gallery opening will be Oct. 18th 7pm and will run through Dec 1st. Sponsored by our friends Vapors Magazine and Tiger Beer. Here’s Tyler’s bio: Tyler “Ty G” Gibney was born in Calgary, Canada. In high school he formed the band “High Rollers” with childhood friends including artist Geoff Mcfetridge. After brief success, the band broke up in 1994 and Tyler moved to Montreal and attended Concordia University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, Major in Design. He then started working freelance with his own “high rollers/headache” company and working with the Voice of Montreal which would soon become Vice Magazine. After leaving Vice magazine he founded Heavyweight Production House in 1998 with Gene ‘Starship’ Pendon and Dan ‘DSTRBO’ Buller. As part of the Heavyweight Art Installation he toured worldwide and held exhibitions at galleries such as the Parco gallery in Tokyo, 2001, and at the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art (MOCCA) in Toronto and the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in 2002. Tyler relocated to Los Angeles to open Heavyweight Production House, Inc, which includes music and fine arts projects, a clothing line, and graphic design services for commercial clients such as adidas, Gravis and MGM. After he executive produced the compilation “HVW8 Presents: Music Is My Art” for Ubiquity records in 2005, he co-founded the HVW8 GALLERY in 2006, which is a studio and exhibition space for HVW8 and friends. The gallery’s current mandate is supporting avant garde graphic design artists, such as the works of Dutch designer/illustrator Parra (April 7-May 5, 2007) and American designer Brent Rollins (Aug 31- Sept 24, 2007). Tyler lives in West Hollywood with his girlfriend and cat, lil T. |

Badly Dressed Code.
|
Its not just the crotchety old school boards making damn dress codes andregulations these days…now the NFL is getting into the act. Forty-niner coach, Mike Nolan, is only allowed to wear a suit and tie on the sidelines for the team’s eight home games as opposed to all 16 games on the schedule. The reason being Reebok, which has paid the NFL a gigantic licensing fee to market all the game day apparel for both on the field and on the sideline. Nolan’s bespoke attire seems to have added some gum to their gears. This guy is just trying to add some dignity to the game (and honor his ailing father, former Niners head coach Dick Nolan, who donned a suit while he patrolled the sidelines during his tenure in the 60’s) and what does the NFL say-No dice pal, you have to look like all the other full grown adolescent jerk offs in tasteless off the rack casual team apparel. Most NFL head coaches (even those considered geniuses) dress for games like they dress for all-u-can eat buffets. Nolan (see image) looks at least in the realm of respectability and after the game could probably score a table at a classy restaurant. The fact that he looks different may be the heart of the matter. What does that say about America’s game, so much for the “land of the free”…. please make checks payable to Reebok. (What country are they from anyway?) In an ironic twist, the NFL league policy states that players and coaches must arrive at the stadium on game day in a collared shirt and shoes (not sneakers). So in effect the league is asking the coaches to dress down for the games. What’s next? Is the NFL going to mandate that coaches wear full uniforms including helmets next year ala Major League Baseball, where we have to endure the perversity of looking at fat 60 year old men dressed in little league outfits? Dear NFL…have some respect for yourself. |
