Beasties Taking You To Another Realm, Another Level

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 2:05 pm

One of the dopest songs I’ve heard from the Beastie Boys in a very very long time. If the rest of their new album is even remotely as good as this song then I think we’re in for a treat. Kudos to Mike D for rocking the Jew-fro.

“Engine Engine #9 on the New York Transit Line…”

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 9:02 am

You know how the rest of that line goes. If you’re too young to know, then it’s time to get a refresher course on your Hip Hop history.

XLARGE is proud to be the main presenter for Black Sheep’s Japan Tour. It’s kicking off on May 4th in the Shibuya neighborhood of Tokyo. It’s going to be a great show. Don’t miss this talented group perform live.

Musical Genius!!

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 2:59 pm

Shaq, Kobe, and Ron Artest. (Am I missing anyone?) All reasons to do what Tony Parker is doing. I say, Bravo!! Bravo!! I wish every basketball player out there would put out a rap album.

Let my tape rock ’til my tape popped.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 12:16 pm

Can I spaz out for a minute here? Souls of Mischief and Ugly Duckling are performing this Friday night at the Terrace in Pasadena! Growing up I use to let my tape rock ’til my tape popped. After Wetlands and Tramps closed in New York there really hasn’t been a good hip hop venue. Maybe maybe maybe S.O.B.’s. So basically I stopped following hip hop for the past 5 years. I come out to LA and well well well, look at who’s playing together this Friday–the muthaf*ckin’ Souls and Ducks. Can you guys tell that I’m geeking through the internet?

A night with TLP, The Dandy Warhols, and the crew. Don’t remember much, so I’ll just let you see the pictures.

Beastie Boys ready to disappoint.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 6:02 pm

The Beastie Boys are back in the studio making their seventh album, which Mike D promises to disappoint. In The Age Magazine, Mike says:

“It is actually really different … (fans) can expect to be disappointed, they can expect to be angry at us.”

Mike D and the fellas will be in Australia for the Good Vibrations Festival, which begins in Melbourne on February 10, before heading to the Gold Coast, Sydney and ending in Perth on February 18. It will showcase Jurassic 5, Timo Maas, Cassius, Nightmares on Wax, Rahzel from the Roots, and others.

Go check them out and get ready to get angry if you’re in the land of Oz.

Industry rule #4080: Record Company people are shady!

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:11 pm

Many people may already know, last week GA’s local authorities, working with the recording industry’s trade association, raided DJ Drama’s studio in Atlanta and arrested him and D.J. Don Cannon. The leaders in hip hop mixtapes are now facing racketeering charges and can face a year or more in prison with fines on average of $100,000USD. Investigators seized more than 81,000 allegedly pirated CDs and say the pair were producing unlicensed recordings and selling them without permission.

I’m embarrassed for them.

Coachella is bringing Rage back.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 12:33 pm
RATM

Coachella announced their line up for their annual concert event in the middle of the desert. It will be headlined by the likes of the re-united Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bjork. Rage Against the Machine has decided to put their differences aside in order to make millions of dollars by going out on a limb and speaking out against the war in Iraq. Such bold dissidents are hard to find in this time and age. Where have you guys been, Rage? Where-have-you-guys-been?

The line up will also consist of the best streetwear label whore since Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco; Pharaohe Monche, the now irrelevant Ghostface, and the Roots.

There will also be a slew of indie rock bands, so you can brag to your friends about how you saw them at Coachella way before they played at Roseland or at The Roxy just to see them fade away in the bargain bin at Virgin.

Exact dates and times for the acts will also be confirmed at a later date. Tickets for the festival will go on sale Saturday, January 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time via TicketMaster. General admission tickets are priced at $249 for a three-day pass.
