1 OF THE BEST EVERY

By xlarge @ 5:26 pm

picture-7.png

Unfortunately I can’t brag about always knowing how ill Bundles is. I say “is” because dude is still better than most of the cats that have been out for the past DECADE. And sure from time to time those of us that claim to love hip-hop tend to fall into the “purest” category and won’t openly support “Bling Rap”. I understand; I vibe to Mos, Nas, Ice Cube, S.A.S, Snoop, Apathy, Blu and a lot of others, too. I use them all to get in the zone here at work or out in the on streets. That’s what rappers are suppose to do; whether they’re talking about “Who’s going to be the next president?”, to “How are we going to pay our next light bill?”, or wildin’ out at a private party with the homies. They take you there. That’s their job. Rappers are entertainers and the very best of them are amazing wordsmiths. Stack Bundles is definitely of the very best.

Thank you, Stack. You will be forever missed and respected. Squad up, my ninja!

“shreds” (youtube)

By Capt. Nemo @ 10:47 pm

If you like internet pranks and goofs (along the lines of getting rickrolled), get hip to the “shreds” phenomenon on youtube. Rock performance video meets home studio jamming and overdubbing… Check out Eddie’s ‘Smoke on the Water’ around 1:14…

Eddie Van Halen shreds…

Carlos Santana shreds…

Slash shreds…

Viva Radio: 77 Boadrum Site Launch!

By Capt. Nemo @ 8:49 am

This past summer, the Boredoms put together an amazing event in NYC. On July 7th, 2007, devoted participants and fans gathered at the Empire-Fulton Ferry State in Brooklyn’s DUMBO neighborhood to experience an ensemble of 77 drummers performing as “one giant instrument”.

Event organizers estimated that over 11,000 people RSVP’d to attend, many turned away due to capacity restrictions. Viva Radio put together an online video companion that is an ideal reference for those that experienced the event up close, those that could not be admitted, and Boredoms fans worldwide.

Definitive video here showing the event.
Exclusive video interview with eYe here.

Vegas Party

By jenni @ 12:28 pm

I am new to blogs and not a very good writer.  Paul is out of town and someone has to blog.  That would be me and since he didn’t get a chance to show you the Unity Mansion Party.  I thought this would be a good first blog for me.

We were pretty tired before we even went out.

Boston Invaded Los Angeles Last Night.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 3:50 pm

The Weekly Drop kids flew in late Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon rolled to our store to check out the gallery and say what’s up before the party that night in their honor.

The obligatory group shot. In case you’re keeping score, Yankees are just 6 games behind Boston.

Jeff and Frank looking through our diggs.

Rob behind the counter acting like he owns the place.

Incognitos. (Those are “black bar glasses”).

Here are the pictures from the Sunday night party that XLARGE sponsored for the Weekly Drop kids. Another great event and a great time had by all:

Les Deux was a nice little spot in Hollywood.

Jerry from Greyone manning the door and repping XLARGE/Dez.

Mmmmmmm. Vodka.

My liver hates me.

Our servers and Jenni.

Rory and I being interviewed for KushTV. Definitely worth missing. I don’t think either Rory or I sounded very intelligent. More on the retarded side I’m sure.

Jenni, XLARGE’s female counterpart, and her friend Emily.

John and Dez from Doodlebarn. Arnold from Greyone.

Danny Boy from La Coka Nostra.

I see Crooks!!!

Jeff (Weekly Drop) and Rickey Kim clowning.

Rob (Weekly Drop) laying the smoochie smooch on Jenn from Unity.

Maurice from Vapors.

Bryan and Wonhee from Mobius.

DJ Muggs on the wheels.

Have to mention Erik Brunetti from FUCT. He was camera shy last night. Said he’s tired of showing up on blogs. The price you pay if you’re at streetwear industry events.

Sneaker Pimps

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 2:08 pm

This past weekend was pretty eventful. Let’s start off with the Sneaker Pimps Show last Friday:

An old friend of mine from my Future Relic days did me a favor and put me on the VIP list for the show. I asked Jenni, the XLARGE female counterpart, to join me since she is probably the biggest sneakerhead in the office. When we arrived there were two lines wrapping around the block with people waiting to get in. I was worried it was going to be one of those clusterf*cks to get in, but luckily they had a Goodfellas/Swingers backdoor entrance set up and we got in right away.

Some of the rare and collectible sneakers on display.

Our friend, Logan Hicks’s limited edition shoe was on display at the KSwiss section.

They had a little mini ramp set up that was open to anyone with a skateboard. The skaters were pretty good.

But they were all upstaged by Tyson the skateboarding British Bulldog.

He was so rad.

Peps from the show:

Graphic Artist and Atwater Surf Clothing creative director, Dean Bradley.

Aaron aka Angry Woebots

Aaron creating one of his iconic rabid panda during the show.

Estevan Oriol

Redman offering some XLARGE sh*t in the VIP.
He has a very “college buddy” vibe to him. (Not to sound all Brokeback or nothin’.)

Redman killed it. This was the first time I’ve seen him perform live. He was amazing. I’ve been to a fair amount of hip hop shows in New York and I have to say that he now ranks as one of my favorite live performers along side Mos Def, Method Man, and Last Emperor. Redman just destroyed it and the audience definitely showed their appreciation.

It was weird seeing the show from this perspective. Watching the people react to the performer and seeing people know the songs word for word, must be an interesting feeling for performers.

And there was free beer in the VIP. Good times.

Beasties Taking You To Another Realm, Another Level

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 2:05 pm

One of the dopest songs I’ve heard from the Beastie Boys in a very very long time. If the rest of their new album is even remotely as good as this song then I think we’re in for a treat. Kudos to Mike D for rocking the Jew-fro.
