Ch-ch-ch-ch-Check it Out!

By xlarge @ 12:03 pm

Not my favorite Beastie Boys song…Anyway, if you guys are bored at work or school or your dick needs to heal before you start jerking it again, here’s some websites you might want to check out:

The London Police- Chaz finally has a proper website and he’s actually updating it on a regular. There’s also a dodgy photo of me somewhere on there.
Hellz Bellz- Bam and Lanie are definitely doing something different and exciting. They’re part of the small minority that’s keeping the things fresh and on point in an industry that’s way too large.
3sixteen- You know what’s great about this label is that they were able to create a following since the beginning. Like your favorite sports star who’s been flying under the radar in college and you’ve been able to see him develop and become a superstar.
The Social Consumer- Jeff Carvalho from Weekly Drop is partially responsible for this site. It’s a little text heavy, but definitely an entertaining read. They are able to bring wit, humor, and intelligence to subjects most would consider to possess one of those characteristics but devoid of the other.
Jessica Michibata’s Blog- Hopefully your dick has healed by now. I can’t read a lick of Japanese, but I “read” her blog three times a day. She’s the girl guys think about when they close their eyes if they’re having sex with an ugly girl with cheesy tattoos.

Listen Up Show

By xlarge @ 5:15 pm

There was some confusion to the posting about the show opening. As with all openings (The London Police, Logan Hicks, Dez Einswell, etc.) and not just the XLARGE openings, but with openings and art installations I’ve done in the past in NY– there is high amount of stress and energy that goes into the production. When I said that it was a relief that it was over I was simply referring to the return in normalcy…The show looks great, the tee shirts is one of my personal favorites, and I listened to the 45 that Tyler produced and think it’s amazing. I will be posting photos of the artwork tomorrow, but you should really come by the gallery to get the full effect. Definitely a show worth catching.

The opening was last night for Tyler Gibney. Just want to say it’s more of a relief than anything.

XLARGE would like to present to you our 4th artist in our Upstairs Gallery series, Tyler Gibney. We have produced a limited edition tee shirt that will only be available at the XLARGE stores. The gallery opening will be Oct. 18th 7pm and will run through Dec 1st. Sponsored by our friends Vapors Magazine and Tiger Beer.

Here’s Tyler’s bio:

Tyler “Ty G” Gibney was born in Calgary, Canada. In high school he formed the band “High Rollers” with childhood friends including artist Geoff Mcfetridge. After brief success, the band broke up in 1994 and Tyler moved to Montreal and attended Concordia University, from which he graduated with a Bachelor’s in Fine Arts, Major in Design. He then started working freelance with his own “high rollers/headache” company and working with the Voice of Montreal which would soon become Vice Magazine. After leaving Vice magazine he founded Heavyweight Production House in 1998 with Gene ‘Starship’ Pendon and Dan ‘DSTRBO’ Buller. As part of the Heavyweight Art Installation he toured worldwide and held exhibitions at galleries such as the Parco gallery in Tokyo, 2001, and at the Museum of Canadian Contemporary Art (MOCCA) in Toronto and the Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico in 2002. Tyler relocated to Los Angeles to open Heavyweight Production House, Inc, which includes music and fine arts projects, a clothing line, and graphic design services for commercial clients such as adidas, Gravis and MGM. After he executive produced the compilation “HVW8 Presents: Music Is My Art” for Ubiquity records in 2005, he co-founded the HVW8 GALLERY in 2006, which is a studio and exhibition space for HVW8 and friends. The gallery’s current mandate is supporting avant garde graphic design artists, such as the works of Dutch designer/illustrator Parra (April 7-May 5, 2007) and American designer Brent Rollins (Aug 31- Sept 24, 2007). Tyler lives in West Hollywood with his girlfriend and cat, lil T.
