O-matic Snowboards

By xlarge @ 6:59 pm

Christmas came a day early for me. Joon Yang and Jason Kanes from O-matic Snowboards, a small independent snowboarding company out of Encitas, CA sent me this awesome snowboard. The Wig-Out Board is the winner of the “BEST PARK BOARD” Award by Transworld Snowboarding Magazine. Jason Kanes designs and engineers the snowboards for O-matic. He started making snowboards 20 years ago to get free lift tickets, founding Joyride Snowboards to engineering and designing for Jeenyus and Forum along the way.Let me say a short word about Fed-Ex. Encitas, CA is about 1000 miles away from me (Boulder, CO). Jason sent the board standard overnight on Dec. 20. Fed-Ex decided to send the board to Indianapolis, IN, which is about 2000 miles away from Enitas, CA on the 21st of Dec. On Dec. 22nd (two days after Jason sent the board) they send the board to Denver, Co, which is only 30 miles aways from Boulder. The geniuses that Fed-Ex is they send the board to Memphis, TN. on the 23rd of Dec., which is 1,200 miles away. Then finally 4 days after Jason sends the board it finally arrives at me house. I’m not a geography wiz or a math wiz, but I thought overnight meant the next day and I always thought that sending something the shortest distance is the fastest and cheapest way to send something. I guess Fed-Ex, a multi-billion dollar company, knows something that I don’t know. The Wig-Out in question and they threw in a couple of free tee shirts.Big ups to Joon and Jason for hooking it up. I’ll let you know how it rides.Maybe I can ask Joon to hook up a date with O-matic’s pro rider Tara Dakides. HOOOOOOTTTTTT.

Top Ten Ski Resorts in North America.

By xlarge @ 7:14 pm

Ski Magazine just released their Top 10 Ski Resorts for 2007 and I’m stoked on how 6 of the 10 are throwing distance from me:

1. Deer Valley, UT. It’s about 500 miles away from me, so I’ll probably never go there and I’m kind of ignorant of how Mormons feel about “my kind”.

2. Vail, CO. This place is awesome. Only 2 hours away from me. The resort gets copious amounts of soft fluffy powder almost everyday all day, but the town itself sucks hairy donkey balls. I was there with a few friends and we went out for some drinks, but it must of been amateur hour at the Apollo that night. Basically a bunch of frat boys trying to spread the clap and hood rats trying to get into fist fights over who has the biggest hoop earrings.

3. Whistler/Blackcomb, B.C. I’ve never been here, but I definitely want to go sooner than later. The other half of Future Relic, Kenyon, has gone there a couple of times. The 2010 Winter Olympics is going to be held here as well. The only thing that may suck about it is that you have to fly to Vancouver and THEN drive to get there…and it’s in Canada. Canada, eh?

4. Aspen, CO. You have to be ballin’ to go here. I mean like Lebron James kind of money. It usually takes me 4 hours to get there, but when it’s a powder day I heard it can take as long as 13 hours.

5. Snowmass, CO. Snowmass is pretty much right next to Aspen, so you can say that their one in the same.

6. Park City, UT. It’s in Utah…

7. Breckenridge, CO. It’s like RIGHT there (less than 2 hours away). Affectionately called Breck, this place is probably where most of the locals go skiing or riding.

8. Beaver Creek, CO. Right past Vail.

9. Steamboat, CO. This place is a little bit far in comparison to the other resorts, but another perfect example why the big C-O is the place to be during the winter.

10. Sun Valley, ID. Potatoes and ski hoes.

Hellz Bellz Holiday Party

By xlarge @ 5:34 pm

My boy, Bam from Hellz Bellz, is having a holiday party in Los Angeles at Crash Mansion. I always have fun at Rickey Kim and Kenny Mac’s weekly party, but it sounds like it’s going to be epic with Hellz Bellz a part of it this week. Too bad I’m in Colorado for the winter season. Makes me almost miss LA…ALMOST.
