Aries Spears’s impersonations of rappers.

If you do not look at him and just listen, he sounds spot on to the rappers he’s impersonating. Pretty funny and amazing. |

Beautiful/Decay Release Party.
|
Beautiful/Decay magazine is having a release party this Friday at the Royale on Wilshire. It’ll be brought to you by Greyone and XLARGE. Details below: ![]() Royale is a very old-school place with a 007 Bond type feel. (Or maybe I’m just associating it with Bond because of the name.) The place is small and intimate and we’ll be providing give-aways as well, so get there early. |

Mick the Mouse VS. Our Littler Feller
|
I grabbed lunch with Les from Disney today next to our store/gallery. We talked about dog fighting, artists, the East Coast (his pedigree is from Westchester), biking, etc., etc. Basically a good afternoon to shoot the shit with a new friend. He’s not pictured because Disney has exclusive rights to his image and likeness and they’ll take my first born if I publish his picture without the expressed written consent from Walt Disney himself after he defrosts from his cryogenic suspension. Anyway, Les was too kind and gave me a Bloc 28 Mickey Vinyl figure. Probably one of the dopest things I’ve gotten from anyone in LA. ![]() Mick the Mouse. ![]() Our Littler Feller Bearbrick smelled a challenger to his alpha dominance. ![]() Unfortunately it had to come to blows. ![]() A vicious right hook from Mick the Mouse. ![]() “You got knocked the f*ck out!!!” Next challengers will be the Michael Lau x XLARGE toys. Yes, yes, yes. I’m a grown ass man playing with toys. And no I don’t get a lot of dates. |
Still the biggest jerk.
Kip Hornsly, reporter for WTF-TV in Las Vegas and self-proclaimed close personal friend of Barry Bonds since high school, reports that Barry Bonds told him over a phone interview: “Hank Aaron? F*ck that guy. I can outhit him, and besides, I’m not even worried about him. I’m not worried about the American record, they’re going to ’star’ me anyway. I’m going for the best in the world.” -Barry Bonds (in reference to Nippon Professional Baseball’s Sadaharu Oh’s 868 career home runs.) To Barry Bonds credit, I really doubt he said this, but I believe in the saying: “You are the company you keep.” Kip sounds like a duche, so what does that make Barry? But with friends like Kip I would really hate to be Bonds and read things reporters who aren’t his friends write. |

“Drive the lane like I was Evan Bernard”
|
Evan Bernard’s new short film. He’s been a long time friend of Eli’s and directed films for the Beastie Boys, as well as XLARGE’s “Action Suit” starring John C. Reilly. |

Boston Invaded Los Angeles Last Night.
|
The Weekly Drop kids flew in late Saturday night and on Sunday afternoon rolled to our store to check out the gallery and say what’s up before the party that night in their honor. ![]() The obligatory group shot. In case you’re keeping score, Yankees are just 6 games behind Boston. ![]() Jeff and Frank looking through our diggs. ![]() Rob behind the counter acting like he owns the place. ![]() Incognitos. (Those are “black bar glasses”). Here are the pictures from the Sunday night party that XLARGE sponsored for the Weekly Drop kids. Another great event and a great time had by all: ![]() Les Deux was a nice little spot in Hollywood. ![]() Jerry from Greyone manning the door and repping XLARGE/Dez. ![]() Mmmmmmm. Vodka. ![]() My liver hates me. ![]() Our servers and Jenni. ![]() Rory and I being interviewed for KushTV. Definitely worth missing. I don’t think either Rory or I sounded very intelligent. More on the retarded side I’m sure. ![]() Jenni, XLARGE’s female counterpart, and her friend Emily. ![]() John and Dez from Doodlebarn. Arnold from Greyone. ![]() Danny Boy from La Coka Nostra. ![]() I see Crooks!!! ![]() Jeff (Weekly Drop) and Rickey Kim clowning. |
Sneaker Pimps
|
This past weekend was pretty eventful. Let’s start off with the Sneaker Pimps Show last Friday: An old friend of mine from my Future Relic days did me a favor and put me on the VIP list for the show. I asked Jenni, the XLARGE female counterpart, to join me since she is probably the biggest sneakerhead in the office. When we arrived there were two lines wrapping around the block with people waiting to get in. I was worried it was going to be one of those clusterf*cks to get in, but luckily they had a Goodfellas/Swingers backdoor entrance set up and we got in right away. ![]() Some of the rare and collectible sneakers on display. ![]() Our friend, Logan Hicks’s limited edition shoe was on display at the KSwiss section. ![]() They had a little mini ramp set up that was open to anyone with a skateboard. The skaters were pretty good. ![]() But they were all upstaged by Tyson the skateboarding British Bulldog. ![]() He was so rad. Peps from the show: ![]() Graphic Artist and Atwater Surf Clothing creative director, Dean Bradley. ![]() Aaron aka Angry Woebots ![]() Aaron creating one of his iconic rabid panda during the show. ![]() Estevan Oriol ![]() Redman offering some XLARGE sh*t in the VIP. He has a very “college buddy” vibe to him. (Not to sound all Brokeback or nothin’.) ![]() Redman killed it. This was the first time I’ve seen him perform live. He was amazing. I’ve been to a fair amount of hip hop shows in New York and I have to say that he now ranks as one of my favorite live performers along side Mos Def, Method Man, and Last Emperor. Redman just destroyed it and the audience definitely showed their appreciation. ![]() It was weird seeing the show from this perspective. Watching the people react to the performer and seeing people know the songs word for word, must be an interesting feeling for performers. And there was free beer in the VIP. Good times. |

Friday XLARGE Lunch Day
|
Today we went to a Los Angeles institution, Canter’s Deli. This place is on Fairfax Ave, but might as well be on Ludlow and Houston- definitely a “real” Lower East Side Manhattan deli. They pickle their own pickles every morning, they have sandwiches the size of your face, and their matzo ball soup is pretty f*cking good. ![]() Jenni almost killed us on the way to Canter’s. She almost side swiped this car. Jenni swears the car was hard to see because of the color. Yeah, tan is the new camoflauge. The car might as well of been Wonder Woman’s invisible jet. ![]() The iconic Canter’s marquee. ![]() Canter’s side wall murals. ![]() Their ceiling is kind of trippy. ![]() Home pickled pickles! ![]() I have to say, they really didn’t have a large enough selection on the menu. ![]() ![]() Dave’s matzo and salami sandwich. ![]() ![]() Rory’s chicken rice soup and turkey pastrami sandwich. ![]() Jenni’s lox and cream cheese sandwich. ![]() My turkey sandwich. ![]() L.E.S. Jake Brown Falls 45 ft.
|
Skater Jake Brown fell 45 feet during the X-Games last night! I was in a lounge bar with TV screens and a lounge singer in a cocktail dress singing “My Funny Valentine”. Needless to say the bar wasn’t a ruckus sports frat boy spot. I was watching the X-Games and saw this: I reflexively screamed, “Holy Sh*t!” The singer stopped singing, the pianist stopped pianoing, the whole place stopped and turned towards me. “What? I’m the asshole?” Anyway, Jake Brown was in first place before that run. In my mind he should of still of been in first place after walking away from the best crash I’ve seen in any skateboarding event. |
