Logan Hicks Farewell LA Show at the Upstairs Gallery.
Logan Hicks, Los Angeles stencil artist, is our second collaborator in our Gallery series. Logan has rocketed to international recognition with his obsessive approach to creating stencils. His talent as an artist is one of the most coveted in the art and streetwear world, doing works for KSwiss, Burton Snowboards, Upper Playground, and numerous galleries. He is relocating to Brooklyn shortly, so the opportunity to see him at gallery openings in the LA area will be few and far in between. To mark Logan’s departure from Los Angeles he will be having a ‘Farewell LA show’ at the Upstairs Gallery at XLARGE on Vermont Avenue. To commemorate this show Logan worked with XLARGE to produce a number of items that will be available exclusively at the Los Angeles X-Large shop. Here are the computer mock-ups of the pieces. We may even have a few other things for sale, but I can’t spill the beans on everything just yet. ![]() Comes in a set for $30. ![]() $35 You can pre-buy these items over the phone by calling our flagship store at 323-666-3483 SHORTLY. I’ll let you know when the buying can begin. |

Holy Mole. (Yeah, thats right. I’m corny.)
|
Hell yeah! It’s that time of the month. FRIDAY XLARGE LUNCH DAY! What country’s cuisine did we dine on this time? VIVA LA OAXQUIN! (Don’t ask me if that’s the correct spelling.)
![]() Dave ![]() Jenni ![]() Paul ![]() Rory Then we went to XLARGE’s favorite dive bar, Club Tee Gee for some Manhattans and Martinis and to say hello to our favorite bartender. It was around 2:00. (Who are you to judge?!)

Last 2 weeks for the London Police Show
|
It’s with great regret that I have to report that the London Police Show will be closing in the next couple of weeks. I have the sad task of painting over the installation and having people pick up the canvases that they bought. We still have 3 remaining Little Lad paintings available for sale. According to Chaz, an opportunity to see and buy his work in Los Angeles will not come around for a very long time. For more information about buying the remaining pieces, please contact the gallery at 323-666-3483 or email me at paul(at)xlarge(dot)com. ![]() Everybody Skin Up Two Times $1777 ![]() Big Geez Like Joel Starr $1111 ![]() Doggity Dogg $999 |

Donny Miller takes on Rodeo Drive.
|
Donny Miller is a brilliant stream of consciousness Los Angeles artist who was the creative director of Vans and worked for Rockstar Games, but now concentrates more on producing his own artistic work. This is his latest work: It’s a bit obvious but nevertheless hilarious. I’ll skip the pretentious overly academic deconstruction of the meaning behind this work and just let the video speak for itself. Enjoy. |

“Glendale Boulevard Is Where I’m At”
|
“Glendale Boulevard Boulevard Ari Marcopoulos took this shot of the Beastie Boys at the Atwater Village sign next to the old G-SON Studios, where they recorded the classic albums, Check Your Head and most of Ill Communications. XLARGE now occupies the same building. In my opinion, which doesn’t count for anything, the Beasties need to come back to the West Coast and start making “good” albums again instead of the subpar joints of late. (I can’t believe I’m recommending that someone leave New York City and come to LA for the better. And my opinion does not reflect those of XLARGE’s nor do I speak for anyone but myself in this particular matter.) Here is Rory(designer), Billy(designer), and Eli(Head Honcho) looking just as goofy as the B-Boys.
To set the record straight, I believe the Beastie Boys are one of the greatest things to happen to music. |

Beastie’s Court
|
Here’s the second installment of the XLARGE offices. I showed you our back lot the last time. The Beastie Boys use to run half court basketball games in this building in between recording sessions and finding great musical geniuses and treasures like Sean Lennon. The original backboard was made out of plywood, but was shortly replaced with a glass one that is still up today. Heard that the games would get pretty vicious. We share the building with a production house called Fondue Productions. They occupy the space where the studio and half court was while XLARGE occupies the floor where the Grand Royal offices were, so games are suspended until further notice. The guys at Weekly Drop challenged us to a game, so we may have to push some of the furniture aside to put a whooping on those Boston kids. Hopefully they’re not like Undefeated and run scared.

Wolfpack
|
If you think the bike scene is exclusive to San Fran and New York, then think again. Wolfpack Hustle is the sleeper crew that is uniquely Los Angeles. Unlike SF and NY which both have centralized city layouts, Los Angeles sets the benchmark for urban sprawl. Wolfpack embraces this characteristic by organizing vicious fast paced rides of upwards to 45miles. They are setting a new standard that is challenging the common notion that the hardest riders are from New York City and San Francisco. |
The want2Bsquare Show LA
|
Scion has called upon seven dynamic contemporary and internationally-recognized artists to create original artwork inspired by and in celebration of the all-new 2008 xB urban utility vehicle. The artwork will be displayed at “Want2BSquare” art shows in New York and Los Angeles, and carry the theme of squares, boxes and cubes to follow the xB’s boxy style.
