Summit

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 3:46 pm

Bobby from the Hundreds came over to the store yesterday to talk shop. I really only met him a couple times, so this is my first real conversation with him. I found out a few things about Bobby Digital:
1. He’s married. (WTF. That’s soooo not street.)
2. We’re somehow related through distant crossbreeding.
3. Ben’s NOT related.
4. He kept asking me which Michael Bolton song was my favorite. I, of course, tell him that I celebrate the guy’s entire catalog.
5. He struts around in his bathrobe with lipstick on and tells girls in holes:
“It rubs the lotion on its skin then it places it in the basket, or else it gets the hose.”

OK- so the last two may or may not be true. My life becomes a blur after a while.

Rats in KFC/Taco Bell

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 11:39 am

Seeing rats in New York isn’t that uncommon. There is a general knowledge that every restaurant there, no matter how nice, probably has mice, roaches, rats, or all three. But good lord. There are like 50 rats just chillin’ at the KFC/Taco Bell across from The Cage in The Village. I threw up a little in my mouth when I saw the footage. I am guilty of eating there a couple times when I lived there. Still makes me sick to the stomach, thinking about it. The worse part of the whole thing is they passed a health inspection literally a day before. NY should have a a grading system for their restaurants like Los Angeles does.

Killer Monkeys

monkey

Scientists just discovered monkeys in Senegal make and use spears to hunt prey. Are we one step closer to Planet of the Apes? That movie always freaked me out when I was younger… Still freaks me out.

warhol

Twenty years after his death, he’s still the most important artist of today. Every streetwear company should pay him a royalty.

Dez Einswell now has a new website out called Doodle Barn, where he sells his own tshirts, shoes, stickers, prints, and vinyl figures.
Whyno and Memono, limited to 400 pieces each, are Dez’s newest creations. They come in cool “barn-like” boxes and have removable costumes. The color and attention to detail are top notch. No shortcuts were taken in creating these pieces.

He’s also going to be one of our featured artists in our new gallery opening up soon in our flagship store. More details on that to come.

Streetwear x a Good Cause

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 3:25 pm

It’s unfortunate that the streetwear community doesn’t do more to give back to a community and fight for a good cause.

Ian Ginoza has teamed up with Converse to create a special shoe. It will help raise funds to fight AIDS in Africa.

The limited addition footwear is part of the Product Red project started by U2 frontman Bono.

Ian Ginoza is creative director and part owner of the Honolulu urban streetwear store Kicks Hawaii. The sneakers can be found only at his two stores in Honolulu and one store in Chicago.

The unique shoes’ fabric is designed by Hawaiian wear designer Sig Zane and his son Kuhao Zane.

Leaving Las Vegas

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 4:25 pm

After a whirlwind through Vegas with non-stop tradeshows, gambling, drinking, and dead hookers, we all made it back safely to Los Angeles. We were all tired and a little lighter in the wallets (except for Rory- bastard), but the trip was well worth it. It was good meeting new friends, catching up with old ones, and showing support to our fellow streetwear hustlers. Until August, I guess my catalog of Celine Dion songs will have to comfort me.

Magic Day1

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 6:13 pm

Today was the first day of Magic. It was a madhouse. This is my first trip out to the tradeshows and it was a bit overwhelming. Once I finally settled into the streetwear area I had the time to meet up with old friends from NY, meet people I’ve known for years but never met in person, and new friends in the industry.
