People are dying for Wii.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:49 pm

Did everyone hear about the woman in California who died from trying to win a Wii through a radio contest? Contestants had to continually drink bottles of water without going to the bathroom. One contestant, Jennifer Strange died of water intoxication according to the county coroner’s report. She was the mother of three young children.

It’s a sad story and it makes me wonder with all the similar hype and hysteria over products like Wii, if people would go to that extreme over sneakers or limited edition clothes. I wonder at what point- with all the waiting in lines for days, ebay price gouging, and breaking into shops- will we see the days of people getting shot over a sneaker come back. Just in case that time comes back sooner than later, I’m wearing my old school Chucks from now on.

Do you guys like how I took this chance to post a picture of a hot Japanese chick?

The London Police

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:17 pm

I had the pleasure of meeting Chaz and Garrett from The London Police (now just Chaz) back in 2004 while I lived in NY. We talked about art, travels, and just bullshit over a pint or two or five. We kept in touch off and on over the years. Chaz just sent me some photos of his recent work and I thought it would be cool to share it with you guys. I was also able to get XLarge and The London Police to do some very special things in the upcoming months, so stayed tuned for more info.

Kobe’s New Shoes?

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 4:51 pm

Did anyone watch the Lakers (Kobe, Kobe, Kobe, Kobe, and Kobe) play the Heat last night, rematch of the Christmas game where Wade gave Kobe a proper beating like he was his daddy? Everyone is talking about Kobe V. DWade. Who has the most game? Who’s going to win more championships? Who lives in a better city? But if you follow streetwear and sneakers, the only argument worth arguing about is, “Who has the better sneaker?”. Kobe’s Air Zooms or Wade’s 1.3 Mids? After further observation, I noticed that Kobe doesn’t seem to be wearing his Zooms. I’m not an expert in shoes like some readers out there, so this post may make me look silly. Can anyone who is an expert tell me what shoes Kobe is wearing?

“The Burning House” Exhibit at New Image Art

By xlarge @ 5:14 pm

Swoon, Faile, and David Ellis are having a group show at New Image Art in West Hollywood starting this Sat, Jan. 20 and running through the 24th of Feb. I believe they’re all from or reside in New York City, so it will be cool to get to see their work out in the West Coast.

I’ve been a fan of Swoon’s work for some time now. It is pretty rad to see how her wheat pastes in the Lower Eastside and Chinatown neighborhoods of Manhattan ended its way up to the MOMA and Whitney Biennial.

For more info about the show you can visit New Image Art.

Sample Sale Recap

By xlarge @ 3:30 pm

Thanks to everyone who came out to the store this past weekend for the sample sale. It was crazy. People were taking clothes by the wheel barrel. Hayden, Shawna, and Paul held it down at the store. Big up to those who helped promote it and posted it on their respective blogs. If you missed it then you have to wait until next year.

Beckham Coming to America to Learn Proper English

By xlarge @ 11:50 pm

After much speculation and rumors, it is now official. Englishman David Beckham is going to grace Los Angeles and the rest of America with his dazzling footwork that will generate 0-0 matches. It’ll only cost the LA Galaxy a small fee of about $1 million a week for the next five years. (Yes, you read that correctly.)

Beckham, when asked about his gigantor contract, is qouted as saying, “Of course it’s a huge amount of money . . . it’s an amazing amount of money. [However] I said yesterday - and some people laughed at me - but this move for me is not about the money. It’s about hopefully making a difference in the US with the soccer and that’s what I’m going there for.

Kudos to Beckham though. He’s not even in America yet and he’s already speaking proper English– calling football soccer.

What a nipple!
So wrong.

Here’s Ali G’s interview with the Beckham’s. Hilarious! You’ll laugh your ass off.

All kidding and joking aside. I’m a huge fan of soccer and am pretty stoked about watching him and perhaps other top notch international players compete in America. Maybe he can teach Americans not to lose against other national teams that spend about a third of what the US does in training soccer players. (i.e. Ghana)

Ohayo gozaimasu

By xlarge @ 5:08 pm

I don’t know how legit this is, but if you hate the sound of your alarm clock as much as I do and you live in Japan, this may be a great alternative:

There are other options available at different costs, but I don’t recommend the wasabi wake up. Go check it out here.
