Authentic American Streetwear

Thanks for the random streetart.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 3:17 pm

We at XLarge, as you may already know, are always down with street art. So it was a pleasant surprise to find a small little piece laid on top of our store sign on Vermont Ave. The work looks vaguely similar to Space Invader, but instead of using mosaic tiles the artist seemed to use Lite Bright. Can anyone shed some “light” on the artist? Either way, thanks to whoever thought to put that on our sign.

Mr. Cartoon Presents “Lost Angels”.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 12:54 pm

Mr. Cartoon, a good friend to XLarge, just came out with one of the coolest vinyl figures I’ve seen in a long time. He collaborated with SuperRad Toys to make the “Lost Angels” 14” figure. Check out the intricate tattoos with removable Nike Cortez and Air Force-1s. It also comes with a ghetto blaster, T-Mobile Sidekick phone, and SA Studio necklace. It doesn’t get more West Coast than this.

“Why do I have a picture of his desk posted on the website?” It’ll all make sense in a couple of days.

DWade/Kobe Follow-up Post

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 11:35 am

So I found out that Kobe’s been wearing his new Air Zoom II in purple and gold. (Refer to January 16th Post). I saw his black ones during the Christmas game, so the newer colorway threw me off.

I forgot to mention in the last post about how this website has the Miami Heat logo flipped shirts available. Check them out:

Buck Rogers x US Military Collab?

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:43 pm

Remember watching Buck Rogers as a kid and thinking, “Wow, I wish I had a ray gun to stun my 2 yr old brother.”

Well that time may have finally come. The US military today demonstrated their new non-lethal ray gun…Well, it was more of a large dish antenna mounted atop a Humvee firing beams that make the target think their clothes are on fire (hilarious), but it could mean a ray gun isn’t far off.

The AP reports that the weapon will not go into production until at least 2010, so you have plenty of time to update your “Non-death Death List”.

Beastie Boys ready to disappoint.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 6:02 pm

The Beastie Boys are back in the studio making their seventh album, which Mike D promises to disappoint. In The Age Magazine, Mike says:

“It is actually really different … (fans) can expect to be disappointed, they can expect to be angry at us.”

Mike D and the fellas will be in Australia for the Good Vibrations Festival, which begins in Melbourne on February 10, before heading to the Gold Coast, Sydney and ending in Perth on February 18. It will showcase Jurassic 5, Timo Maas, Cassius, Nightmares on Wax, Rahzel from the Roots, and others.

Go check them out and get ready to get angry if you’re in the land of Oz.

Industry rule #4080: Record Company people are shady!

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:11 pm

Many people may already know, last week GA’s local authorities, working with the recording industry’s trade association, raided DJ Drama’s studio in Atlanta and arrested him and D.J. Don Cannon. The leaders in hip hop mixtapes are now facing racketeering charges and can face a year or more in prison with fines on average of $100,000USD. Investigators seized more than 81,000 allegedly pirated CDs and say the pair were producing unlicensed recordings and selling them without permission.

Coachella is bringing Rage back.

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 12:33 pm
RATM

Coachella announced their line up for their annual concert event in the middle of the desert. It will be headlined by the likes of the re-united Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Bjork. Rage Against the Machine has decided to put their differences aside in order to make millions of dollars by going out on a limb and speaking out against the war in Iraq. Such bold dissidents are hard to find in this time and age. Where have you guys been, Rage? Where-have-you-guys-been?

The line up will also consist of the best streetwear label whore since Pharrell, Lupe Fiasco; Pharaohe Monche, the now irrelevant Ghostface, and the Roots.

There will also be a slew of indie rock bands, so you can brag to your friends about how you saw them at Coachella way before they played at Roseland or at The Roxy just to see them fade away in the bargain bin at Virgin.

Exact dates and times for the acts will also be confirmed at a later date. Tickets for the festival will go on sale Saturday, January 27 at 10 a.m. Pacific Time via TicketMaster. General admission tickets are priced at $249 for a three-day pass.

LG X Prada Phone

By Paul-is-a-Future-Relic @ 5:41 pm

LG Electronics and PRADA teamed up to launch its first completely touch-screen mobile phone, KE850. The South Korean company said it will start selling the new mobile phone that incorporates a buttonless touch-screen next month. With a large touch-screen display, the “LG Prada” looks to give the Apple’s recently launched iPhone a run for its money.

The KE850 is actually smaller than the iPhone and features a user interface built on top of Adobe’s Macromedia Flash technology. Its extra wide LCD screen maximizes visual impact, allowing the user to benefit from several key features of the phone. Like the iPhone, it also includes 2 megapixel camera featuring Schneider-Kreuznach lens, and video player and document viewer capacity. The phone supports Bluetooth 2.0 and USB 2.0 connectivity and includes a Micro SD memory slot, which allows users to increase memory capacity for images, music and film clips.

Here’s the kicker: The PRADA phone by LG will go on sale in late February for $780 at mobile phone dealers and Prada stores in Britain, France, Germany and Italy, and comes to Asian countries, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Singapore, in March. THE COMPANY, HOWEVER, HAS NO PLANS FOR A US RELEASE. If you get a chance to travel or know people in those countries mentioned above, you can try to get one and “one up” the rest of the poor Americans who can only get the iPhone.
